Patio Chair Sling Replacement DIY

If your patio chairs have faded, torn, or sagging slings, it's time to give them a fresh new look with a DIY replacement. With a little effort and the right materials, you can make your chairs look and feel like new in no time.

Materials You'll Need:

  • New patio chair sling fabric
  • Bungee cord or string
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Screwdriver or wrench (depending on chair type)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Remove the Old Sling: Remove any cushions from the chairs. Use the screwdriver or wrench to detach the old sling from the frame. If it's attached with screws, be sure to loosen them all the way to avoid stripping the heads.
  2. Measure and Cut the New Fabric: Measure the width and length of the old fabric. Add 2-3 inches to each side for a snug fit. Cut the new fabric to these dimensions.
  3. Thread the Bungee Cord: Take one end of the bungee cord and thread it through the edge of the fabric. Double the cord back and tie a tight knot.
  4. Weave the Bungee Cord: Continue threading the bungee cord through the fabric, alternating sides to create a criss-cross pattern. Pull the cord taut as you weave to ensure the fabric is held securely.
  5. Tie Off the Bungee Cord: Once the fabric is completely interwoven, tie off the bungee cord on the opposite side of the fabric as you started. Trim any excess cord.
  6. Attach the New Sling: Align the new sling with the frame of the chair. Use the screwdriver or wrench to reattach the sling to the chair's frame, making sure to tighten the screws or bolts securely.
  7. Finish Up: Replace any cushions or accents to your chair and enjoy your newly re-slings chairs!

Tips for Success:

  • Choose a durable outdoor fabric that is resistant to fading and water damage.
  • Use a bungee cord that is the appropriate size for the thickness of the fabric.
  • Weave the bungee cord evenly to ensure that the fabric is supported equally.
  • Tighten the screws or bolts on the chair frame securely to prevent the sling from sagging.
  • Regularly clean and maintain the sling to extend its lifespan.
