How to Install a Screen in a Patio Door
A screen is a great way to let fresh air into your home while keeping bugs out. If your patio door doesn't already have a screen, you can install one yourself with a few simple tools.
Materials You'll Need
Step 1: Remove the Existing Screen (if applicable)
If your patio door already has a screen, you'll need to remove it before installing the new one. To do this, simply unscrew the screws that hold the screen in place and lift it out.Step 2: Measure and Cut the Screen Material
Measure the opening of your patio door to determine the size of the screen material you need. Cut the material to size using scissors or a utility knife.Step 3: Install the Screen Spline
Screen spline is a thin, flexible strip that holds the screen material in place. To install the spline, insert it into the groove around the edge of the screen frame. Use a screen roller to press the spline into place.Step 4: Attach the Screen to the Door
Once the spline is in place, position the screen over the opening of the patio door. Starting in the center, press the screen into the groove around the frame. Use a screwdriver or drill to secure the screen with screws.Step 5: Trim the Excess Screen Material
Once the screen is attached, trim any excess material around the edges using scissors or a utility knife.Tips
