DIY Round Patio Pavers: A Guide to Creating a Beautiful Outdoor Space

Building a round patio using pavers is a rewarding DIY project that can enhance the aesthetics of your outdoor space. Whether you're a seasoned home improvement enthusiast or a beginner looking to embark on your first project, this comprehensive guide will provide you with all the essential information you need to create a stunning and functional patio.

Materials and Tools

Before you begin, gather the following materials:

  • Round concrete pavers
  • Sand
  • Polymeric sand
  • Edging material (optional)

You will also need the following tools:

  • Shovel
  • Tamping tool
  • Level
  • String line
  • Tape measure

Preparing the Base

Begin by marking the center of your patio and driving a stake into the ground. Tie a string line to the stake and extend it outwards to the desired radius of your patio. Excavate the soil within the marked area to a depth of at least 6 inches.

Compact the base soil using a tamping tool to create a firm foundation. Spread a 2-inch layer of sand over the base and level it using a straight edge. Moisten the sand slightly to help it compact.

Laying the Pavers

Start laying the pavers around the center stake, working your way outwards. Place the pavers snugly together, with their edges touching. As you lay each paver, tap it gently with a rubber mallet to ensure it is level. Use a level to check the surface as you progress.

Continue laying the pavers in a circular pattern, making sure to stagger the joints between rows. When you reach the edge of the patio, cut the pavers to fit using a wet saw or angle grinder.

Edging

Edging is optional but recommended as it helps to keep the pavers in place and adds a finished look to the patio. Install the edging around the perimeter of the patio, using stakes or anchors to secure it into the ground.

Filling the Joints

Once the pavers are laid, fill the joints with polymeric sand. Polymeric sand is a specially formulated sand that hardens when exposed to water, creating a durable and weed-resistant surface.

Spread the polymeric sand over the joints and sweep it into the spaces between the pavers. Use a hose to mist the sand lightly until it sets, being careful not to overwater.

Finishing Touches

Allow the polymeric sand to cure for 24 hours before walking on the patio. Once cured, use a stiff brush to remove any excess sand from the surface of the pavers.

Add furniture and decorations to your new patio and enjoy your beautiful outdoor space. By following these steps and using quality materials, you can create a DIY round patio pavers installation that will last for years to come.
