How To Make A Sail Shade For Patio
A sail shade is a great way to add some shade and style to your patio. It's a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to make a sail shade for your patio:
Materials:
- 12-foot x 12-foot piece of Sunbrella fabric
- Four 1/2-inch x 12-foot galvanized eye bolts
- Four 1/2-inch fender washers
- Four 1/2-inch nuts
- 12-foot length of 1/4-inch galvanized chain
- Four snap hooks
- Drill
- 1/2-inch drill bit
- Wrench
- Scissors
Instructions:
- Lay the fabric out on a flat surface. Fold the edges of the fabric over by 2 inches and press them down.
- Fold the fabric in half and press the edges down again.
- Fold the fabric in half again and press the edges down one last time.
- Mark the center of each side of the fabric with a pencil.
- Drill a 1/2-inch hole through each mark.
- Insert an eye bolt into each hole and secure it with a fender washer and a nut.
- Cut the chain into four equal lengths.
- Attach a snap hook to one end of each chain.
- Hook the other end of each chain to an eye bolt.
- Hang the sail shade from the ceiling or rafters of your patio.
