Redoing Sling Patio Chairs: A Refreshing Revival
Patio chairs with slings are widely popular for their comfort and durability. However, over time, the slings can become faded, torn, or simply tired-looking. Instead of replacing the chairs, redoing them is a cost-effective and fulfilling DIY project that can transform your outdoor space.
Materials Required:
- New sling fabric (measure the existing slings for correct sizing)
- Cord or bungee straps (check dimensions on the sling packaging)
- Scissors
- Cord threading tool (optional, but recommended)
- Screwdriver or other tool to disassemble chairs (if necessary)
Step 1: Remove the Old Sling
Start by disassembling the chair frame if it's not already removable. Carefully remove the old sling by cutting or unhooking the cords or bungees that hold it in place. Set the old sling aside for reference if needed.
Step 2: Prepare the New Sling
Spread out the new sling fabric on a flat surface. Align the edges of the fabric with the perimeter of the chair frame. If the sling has any markings or seams, make sure they are facing the desired direction.
Step 3: Insert the Cord
Choose the appropriate cord or bungee straps and cut them to the correct length according to the sling packaging instructions. Using a cord threading tool or a simple loop of wire, insert the cord through the holes in the sling and frame.
Step 4: Thread the Cord
Pass the cord through the hole in the sling, then wrap it around the appropriate part of the chair frame. Pull the cord tight and secure it below the frame. Repeat this process for all the holes around the perimeter.
Step 5: Final Tightening
Once all the cords are in place, go around and tighten them evenly. Avoid overtightening, as it can damage the sling or chair frame. Secure any excess cord by wrapping it around the frame or tying it off with a knot.
Step 6: Reassemble the Chair
If you disassembled the chair frame, reassemble it now. Make sure the sling is taut and secure. Inspect the chair for any loose or frayed cords and adjust as necessary.
Congratulations! You have successfully redone your sling patio chairs. Enjoy the refreshed look and added comfort as you relax in your outdoor oasis.
