How to Install an Andersen Patio Door Lock

Installing a new lock on your Andersen patio door is a relatively simple task that can be completed in just a few hours. By following the steps outlined below, you can ensure that your door is properly secured and protected.

Materials You'll Need:

- New Andersen patio door lock - Screwdriver - Measuring tape - Pencil - Drill (optional)

Step 1: Remove the Old Lock

Begin by removing the old lock from the door. To do this, simply unscrew the screws that are holding it in place. Once the screws are removed, you will be able to pull the lock out of the door.

Step 2: Measure and Mark the Door

Next, you will need to measure and mark the door for the new lock. Use a measuring tape to determine the center of the door, and then mark this point with a pencil. Once you have the center point marked, use a measuring tape to measure 2-3/8 inches down from the top of the door. This is where the top of the new lock will be installed. Mark this point with a pencil as well.

Step 3: Drill the Holes

If necessary, use a drill to drill holes for the new lock. The size of the drill bit will depend on the size of the screws that you are using. Be sure to drill the holes deep enough so that the screws will be able to fully engage with the wood.

Step 4: Install the New Lock

Insert the new lock into the holes that you have drilled. Be sure to align the lock so that the keyhole is facing up. Once the lock is in place, tighten the screws to secure it.

Step 5: Test the Lock

Once the lock is installed, test it to make sure that it is working properly. Insert the key into the keyhole and turn it to lock the door. Then, try to open the door. If the door does not open, then the lock is installed correctly.

Tips:

- If you are having trouble installing the new lock, consult the manufacturer's instructions for more specific guidance. - Be sure to use the correct size screws for the lock. Using screws that are too small can cause the lock to come loose, while using screws that are too large can damage the door. - If you are not comfortable drilling holes into your door, you can have a professional locksmith install the new lock for you.
