How To Make A Mosaic Patio Table Top
A mosaic patio table top is a beautiful and unique way to add personality to your outdoor space. It's a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few days, and it's a great way to use up leftover tiles or broken dishes.
To make a mosaic patio table top, you will need:
- A table top
- Tiles or broken dishes
- Thin-set mortar
- A notched trowel
- A grout float
- Grout
- A sponge
- A sealant
Step 1: Prepare the table top
If the table top is new, you will need to sand it lightly to create a smooth surface. If the table top is old, you will need to clean it thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris.
Step 2: Apply the thin-set mortar
Using the notched trowel, apply a thin layer of thin-set mortar to the table top. Be sure to spread the mortar evenly and to work in small sections. As you apply the mortar, press the tiles or broken dishes into the mortar. Arrange the tiles or dishes to create the desired pattern.
Step 3: Grout the tiles
Once the mortar has dried, you can grout the tiles. Using the grout float, apply the grout to the tiles. Be sure to fill in all of the gaps between the tiles. Allow the grout to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Step 4: Seal the table top
To protect the mosaic from the elements, you will need to seal it. Apply a sealant to the table top using a sponge. Be sure to apply the sealant evenly and to follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Your mosaic patio table top is now complete! Enjoy your new outdoor space.
