How To Make A Replacement Patio Table Top

Patio table tops can become worn and damaged over time, especially if they are exposed to the elements. If your patio table top is looking worse for wear, you can easily replace it with a new one. Here are the steps on how to make a replacement patio table top.

Materials:

1/2-inch exterior-grade plywood
1x4 cedar or redwood boards
Wood glue
Exterior-grade screws
Sandpaper
Wood stain or paint (optional)

Tools:

Circular saw
Drill
Countersink bit
Sander
Paintbrush or roller (optional)

Step 1: Measure and Cut the Plywood

Measure the length and width of your existing patio table top. Cut a piece of 1/2-inch exterior-grade plywood to the same size.

Step 2: Create the Frame

Cut four 1x4 cedar or redwood boards to the length of the plywood. These boards will form the frame of the table top.

Step 3: Assemble the Frame

Apply wood glue to the edges of the plywood. Place the 1x4 boards around the perimeter of the plywood, flush with the edges. Secure the boards with exterior-grade screws.

Step 4: Countersink the Screws

Use a countersink bit to countersink the screws below the surface of the wood. This will help to prevent the screws from being damaged.

Step 5: Sand the Surface

Sand the surface of the table top to smooth out any rough edges or splinters.

Step 6: Apply Stain or Paint (Optional)

If desired, you can apply a stain or paint to the table top. Allow the stain or paint to dry completely.

Step 7: Attach the Table Top to the Base

Once the stain or paint is dry, you can attach the table top to the base of your patio table. Use exterior-grade screws to secure the table top to the base.
